The quality of the external space of settlements,as the first place for residents’ health activities, has a significant impact on their health. In the context of the current urban renewal and health strategy,it is imperative to renovate the external space of old settlements. However,in the case of resettlement housing settlements,on the one hand,it suffers from poor spatial balance, low environmental comfort and outdated infrastructure, and the design process often fails to consider the activity characteristics and needs of the resettled residents, resulting in an.imbalance in the health needs of the living and the social environment. On the other hand, the current empirical studies on environment and health have paid less attention to the influence of the choice of living environment, and resettlement community is an effective object to solve this problem. In order to solve the contradiction between the low quality of resettlement housing and the high demand for residents’ health, this thesis takes the old resettlement housing and residential areas in Chengdu as the research object.Firstly,by using the method of literature review and summary, the particularity of the construction level and residential groups of the resettlement community are sorted out,and the indicator system of the external space and residents’ health of the resettlement housing settlements are constructed based on the evaluation indicators related to the external space design in the domestic and foreign health building evaluation standards.Secondly, the activity characteristics and needs of resettled residents are summarized, and the problems of low spatial practicality, prominent spatial heterogeneity, and poor microclimate environment in the external space are summarized. Then, the regression analysis of the relationship between environment and health revealed that the factors that significantly influenced the health outcomes in the external space environment included green environment, building density, ventilation environment, sanitation environment, interaction environment, fitness environment and traffic security, and the demand characteristics and personal family attributes of the rehoused residents had different effects on their health outcomes.Factor analysis of the influence mechanisms of healthy environments revealed that healthy external spatial environments are characterized by comfort, support, safety, facility completeness and participation, and compared with the early and recent years, the environmental quality of resettlement housing settlements built in the 2110 s is the lowest. Finally, from the perspective of the subject and the carrier, the objectives and principles of external space optimization of resettlement housing settlements are clarified, the optimization strategies of balance of spatial structure, economy of spatial compound and comfort of spatial environment are proposed from the level of living environment, the optimization strategies of support of fitness space, diversity of activity space, safety of activity environment and communication of activity space are proposed from the level of social environment, and the optimized design of Zhongba community built in the 2110 s is used to verify the feasibility of health-oriented external space optimization strategies of resettlement housing settlements in Chengdu.Through the analysis of the current spatial use of resettlement community and the spatial needs of resettlement residents,as well as the demonstration of environmental and personal factors that affect the health outcomes of residents, this thesis aims to explore strategies for optimizing the external space of settlements that can promote the health level of resettlement residents, and expects to provide a reference for the current healthoriented space optimization design.
