In the 1950 s,The Preservation and Conservation Movement in American were still ongoing, and the scope of the American conservation movement was expanding and shifting towards environmental protection. In 1951,environmental protectors represented by Olaus J.Murie,George Collins and Lowell Sumner launched a campaign to advocate the establishment of a protected area in the northeast corner of Alaska. The campaign called for the establishment of a protected area in the northeast corner of Alaska, that restrain human activities and hoped to protect the natural evolution process of the area from interference through legislation.Opponents mainly came from the mining industry and the Alaska governor. The mining industry hoped to mine minerals and build roads in this area, while the Alaska governor hoped that they can obtain land ownership and management rights in this area after Alaska’s statehood be granted. The initiative to establish Alaska Wildlife Refuge is in line with the concerns of Americans about nuclear pollution and chemical pollution after World War II.In the 1950 s,when the problem of environmental damage caused by human activities was increasingly prominent, the movement to establish Alaska Wildlife Refuge caused great repercussions in American society. This paper focuses on the establishment of wildlife refuge which launched to protect the ecological environment in the northeastern corner of Alaska from the1950 s to the 1960 s.Through the study of original materials, this paper explores the social background and ideological motivation of the rise of the movement to establish Alaska Wildlife Refuge.Examine, analyze, and discuss the historical process of the movement,as well as its impact. In order to deeply explore the characteristics of this movement and summarize the laws of the environmental movement in the United States. This paper is divided into three chapters: The first chapter analyzes the historical background and causes of the establishment of Alaska Wildlife Refuge; The second chapter examines the cause, process and historical process of the establishment of Alaska Wildlife Refuge; The third chapter analyzes the establishment of Alaska Wildlife Refuge. This paper argues that the establishment of Alaska Wildlife Refuge mainly stems from the contradiction and conflict between the development of natural resources, the development of local economy and the protection of the environment. The conservation concept realized in the establishment of Alaska Wildlife Refuge is the focus of this paper. The establishment of Alaska Wildlife Refuge is the balance point that Americans found in the period of rapid economic and social development, where people and nature live in harmony.
