Objective: In China, gastric cancer, with its high incidence and mortality rate, has brought a huge burden to the society.Furthermore gastric cancer has become one of the most common malignant tumors in Liaoning Province. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to illustrate the level of 5-year relative survival rate of gastric cancer patients in two different periods and its prognostic influencing factors in Liaoning Province. The thesis also compares the changes in 5-year relative survival rate of gastric cancer patients diagnosed in 2000-2002 with those in 2008-2009.So as to provide a reference basis for improving the survival rate of gastric cancer patients in Liaoning Province and formulating gastric cancer prevention and treatment strategies. Methods: In this study,475 patients were selected from the database of gastric cancer incidence in three cities of Liaoning Province(Shenyang,Anshan and Benxi)by stratified random sampling method for confirmed cases from 2000 to 2002 and 2006 cases from 2008-2009.Active follow-up was conducted using a self-prepared follow-up sheet on the diagnosis and survival status of tumor patients to retrospectively investigate the basic conditions, clinical information and survival status of patients. After the screening of the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study subjects,400 cases of gastric cancer diagnosed in 2000-2002 and 1588 cases of gastric cancer diagnosed in 2008-2009 were included. The Observe Survival Rate(OSR)was calculated by applying the life table method, and the Relative Survival Rate(RSR)was calculated by the Ederer II method and age-standardized according to the International Cancer Survival Standards weighting(ICSS).Z-test was applied to compare the point-in-time survival rate, and Cox proportional risk regression model One-way and multi-way analyses were performed, and all statistical analyses were completed using SPSS 26.0 with a significance test level of α=0.05.Result: In this study,400 patients with gastric cancer diagnosed in 2000-2002 included in the analysis survived 79 and died 321 after 5-year follow-up;1588 patients with gastric cancer diagnosed in 2008-2009 survived 439 and died 1149 after 5-year follow-up.The 5-year observed survival rate and relative survival rate were calculated and compared between groups in each time period separately, and the results showed statistically significant differences between the survival rates of different age groups, different clinical stages and different surgical situations in the same time period.Comparing the 5-year relative survival rates of gastric cancer patients in Liaoning Province between the two time periods, there was a significant increase of 5.16% from 20.93% in 2000-2002 to 26.09% in 2008-2009(P<0.05).The relative survival rates for the different categories of patients improved for the most part from 2000-2002 to 2008-2009.Single and multi-factor analyses were performed on several factors including gender, age, clinical stage, and surgical situation of gastric cancer patients in both time periods, and multi-factor Cox analysis showed that age, clinical stage, and surgical situation were independent prognostic factors affecting gastric cancer patients, except for gender(P<0.05).Conclusion:In this study,we compared the changes in the 5-year relative survival rate of gastric cancer patients in Liaoning Province between two periods, and the results showed that the overall 5-year relative survival rate of gastric cancer patients in Liaoning Province increased by 5.16% from 2000-2002 to 2008-2009.Age,clinical stage, and treatment modality are independent prognostic factors affecting gastric cancer patients, suggesting that the health department pays attention to the treatment situation of elderly gastric cancer patients, advocates early diagnosis and treatment, and improves the level of early diagnosis and surgical treatment of gastric cancer.
