Objective:Routine household tasks is an important part of physical activity of the elderly in China and an important factor affecting the health of the elderly. Therefore, based on the data of the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS),we can determine the impact of routine household tasks on the health status of the elderly, providing a theoretical basis for improving the health of the elderly in China. Methods:Under the premise of controlling the cause and effect of routine household tasks on the health of the elderly, firstly, the current situation of routine household tasks of healthy elderly in China is analyzed by using descriptive statistics and geographic mapping methods, and then the influence of routine household tasks on self-rated health and the regulatory role of gender, living style and socio-economic status(SES)are analyzed by multiple linear regression method,Finally, the possible mediating effect of exercise participation and depression was analyzed through the improved mediating effect test procedure.Results:1.There is significant spatial heterogeneity in the routine household tasks of the elderly in China. There are significant differences in the proportion of elderly people participating in daily routine household tasks in different provinces, and there are significant north-south differences.2.Under the control of demographic characteristics and social economic status, routine household tasks has a negative impact on the elderly’s self-rated health status(β=-0.077,p<0.01)。3.At present, the gender division of routine household tasks of the elderly in China still presents the traditional pattern that women are more than men(94.9%>73.1%),and daily routine household tasks has a negative impact on the self-rated health of male elderly(β=-0.085,p<0.01),but the effect on elderly women was not significant(p>0.05);The self-rated health status of the elderly living with the younger generation is negatively affected by daily housework(β =-0.080,p<0.001)(β=-0.104,p<0.001);In terms of socio-economic status, daily housework has the greatest impact on the elderly with low SES(β=-0.368,p<0.001),followed by middle-aged SES elderly(β=-0.065,p<0.001),the elderly with high SES were basically unaffected(p>0.05)4.Exercise participation and depression play a masking effect on the impact of routine household tasks on the elderly’s self-rated health, with the effect amount of4.52% and 21.6% respectively.Conclusions:1.Routine household tasks has obvious spatial distribution characteristics. Therefore, when formulating policies and suggestions related to daily routine household tasks, the differences in the daily routine household tasks of the elderly in different regions should be considered, and differentiated measures should be taken to improve the health of the elderly.2.Routine household tasks and self-evaluation health are mutually causal and have a negative impact on self-evaluation health. Therefore, strengthening community elderly care services at the grass-roots level and reducing the frequency and intensity of routine household tasks of the elderly will help to improve the health level of the elderly.3.Gender,living style and socio-economic status play a regulatory role in the process of routine household tasks affecting the self-assessment of health.Routine household tasks has a greater negative impact on the self-assessment of health status of men, couples living together and the elderly with low socio-economic status.Creating a good social participation environment for the elderly and promoting the elderly to live together with their children will help reduce the negative impact of routine household tasks on self-rated health.4.Exercise participation and depression play a masking role in the process of routine household tasks affecting the elderly’s self-rated health, that is,routine household tasks plays a positive role in the self-rated health by improving exercise participation and reducing depression, and reduces the negative impact of routine household tasks on the self-rated health. The above results suggest that the characteristics of housework itself, such as long time and repetitive actions, may be the main reason for its negative impact. Therefore, carrying out normalized health education and health promotion activities for the elderly, improving the elderly’s participation scientific in routine household tasks will help to improve the health level of the elderly.
