The term "gender politics" originated from the Western Marxist feminist trend in the 1960s.It was used by feminists to examine the patriarchal androcentric repression of women and the unequal relationships that exist within the female community.Judith Butler’s gender politics theory is extended on the basis of the original "gender politics," connotation, based on her subject theory, focusing on the current gender norms’ political violence against individuals who do not meet the requirements, and the irrationality of traditional kinship politics and mourning politics. This article takes Butler’s The Appeal of Antigone:The Relationship between Life and Death as the starting point to explore Butler’s theory of gender politics contained in the interpretation of Antigone,in order to have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of Butler’s thoughts. This article is divided into two parts:introduction and main text, and the main text is composed of three chapters. The introduction part introduces Butler’s life, academic achievements and the literature review of Butler research at home and abroad. The first chapter is about the philosophical basis of Butler’s gender politics, namely the philosophy of subject, and explores how the subject is generated in obedience through the recognized desire in Butler’s theory, and how the rejected subject "Antigone" has the potential to resist in the process of its generation. The second chapter examines Antigone from the perspective of gender, and analyzes the theoretical core of Butler’s gender performative, gender performance, and opposition to heterosexual hegemony embodied in Antigone. The third chapter analyzes Antigone from the perspective of politics, reveals the constructiveness and irrationality of the politics of family kinship, and mourns the issue of violence against minorities by norms embodied in politics. In the end,it is concluded that Butler’s gender politics theory is essentially an academic theory that gives voice to the minority "Antigone"who does not meet the norms, and is committed to building a reasonable, open, free, and tolerant future. The innovation of this essay lies in the following:firstly,Butler’s theories of subject, gender and politics are investigated in an interrelated and progressive way, which makes up for the dissociation of the existing research;secondly,Butler’s thoughts are complex. This article takes "Antigone’s Appeal" as the starting point, and carrys out a point-to-face research. Finally, while studying Butler’s thought, this article is closely integrated with real social problems, which has reference value for the solution of today’s social problems. |
