With the continuous expansion of the scale of higher education in our country and the trend of the expansion of postgraduate enrollment,the competition is fierce and the pressure of postgraduate employment is great.In the context of global economic integration,with the continuous improvement of China’s international status and influence,people around the world are increasingly enthusiastic about learning and using Chinese.While the supply of international Chinese language teachers falls short of the demand,few graduates majoring in MTCSOL would engage in Chinese language teaching,which is undoubtedly a waste of resources.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the factors that affect their employment choice.The College of Overseas Education of Xiamen University has a history of more than 60 years.It has abundant faculty and resources,and has been recruiting postgraduate students from the mainland for over 10 years.However,the employment situation of this major is facing the same dilemma.Based on Overseas Education College of Xiamen University as an example,and according to the class of 2019 and 2020 graduate employment survey,the author chose 12 masters of TCSOL and interviewed them.Through the study of their learning and internship experiences,as well as the general situation of employment choice and employment status,the influence of important events on employment choice and employment status is analyzed.Through the analysis,it is concluded that the important events have positive and negative effects on their emploment choice and employment status through motivation,professional ability,curriculum setting and employment guidance.Combined with the existing research results on the factors affecting the employment of masters of TCSOL,this paper summarizes the reasons for the low employment rate of the corresponding major are as following:At the individual level,there are problems such as insufficient information and evaluation,insufficient comprehensive ability,and narrow employment concept.At the level of training units,there are such problems as single training mode and training level,unreasonable curriculum setting and insufficient employment guidance.At the national and social level,there are problems such as the nature of specialties in colleges and universities is not unified,employment policies and employment environment are unfavorable,as well as the influence of unstable factors such as international situation and emergencies.At the end of this paper,it is proposed to improve the comprehensive ability and cultivate the consciousness of career planning for the individual;Optimize the curriculum setting and enrich the training mode for the training units;And improving employment policies for the country and society.
