"Dehua"(的话)is an important cross-layer non-phrase structure in both spoken and written Chinese,which is used frequently and flexibly.This paper attempts to study"Dehua"(的话)from the perspective of functional grammar in order to comprehensively summarize its social and communicative functions and broaden its scope of study.Under the guidance of Halliday’s(1985)functional grammar and the previous studies,this paper finds that the social and communicative functions of"Dehua"(的话)are mainly embodied in interpersonal and textual functions.Generally speaking,the speaker can complete certain information transmission and output through the"Word",and the listener can complete the information input through the understanding of this language point,thus successfully completes the communication.In the process of communication,"Dehua"(的话)usually realizes the functions of expressing hypothesis,pause and modality.In addition,"Dehua"(的话)is also an important language organization symbol in the text,which plays a unique role in establishing the connection between the context and maintaining the cognitive consistency between the speaker and the listener,the concrete function usage can be divided into the topic marking function,the boundary function and the cohesive function.When foreign students acquire the functional usage of"Dehua"(的话),they often make errors due to the influence of language transfer,the problems in teaching and learning,and some problems in the syllabus and teaching materials.According to the characteristics of errors,the errors in the functional usage of"Dehua"(的话)can be divided into four types:addition error,omission error,generation error and collocational error.We hope that this can be done to a certain extent in the teaching process of error prediction,in order to reduce the occurrence of foreign students error.In addition,in order to promote the teaching of"Dehua"(的话)and the acquisition of"Dehua"(的话)by foreign students,this paper also based on the results of the analysis of the types and causes of foreign students’errors,some suggestions on textbook compilation,teacher teaching and foreign students’acquisition of"words"are put forward.It is hoped that through this study,we can link the ontological study of the functional grammar of"Dehua"(的话)with the international Chinese education,and provide a new perspective for the study of"Dehua"(的话),as well as a reference for teaching.
