| In the late Ming Dynasty, the publishing activities of the bookshops in Jianyang and Nanjing shouldn’t limited to "competitive" relationship, and publishing activities were not independent and closed. This article starts with three typical types of bookshop engraved editions, namely books for imperial examination education, encyclopedias for daily use,and novels and operas,in an attempt to establish the association and interaction of publishing between the two places.Taking Yun Fu Qun Yu and Chunqiu Jingzhuan as examples, the bookshops have accepted official commissions for publication, and the original text may come from the other side’s editions.Yu Yingqiu, who is the owner of the bookstore with the status of Guozijian student, flexibly used his personal network to build a bridge connecting the Nanjing market and expand the publishing business. The text is open and shared. The encyclopedias published in the two places have a complicated copy and combination relationship in content, but the internal logic of their arrangement suggests that each "new book" has its own characteristics, and their production is based on market considerations. And behind it reflects social and cultural changes.Although,Jianyang Bookstore tends to use the text of the Jianyang system, while the Nanjing Bookstore maintains a higher text independence. The flow of people and things deepens the integration. The engravings and engravers are circulated among the bookstores, but the format can still maintain a certain regional characteristic. The mutual influence and reference of illustration styles can also illustrate the common progress of publication. It is speculated that the relationship between the editions of the series of books such as Tang Shu Zhi Zhuan Tongshu Yanyi,Da Song Zhong Xing Tongshu Yanyi,West Chamber eds.,there may be cohesive cooperation between Jianyang Yu’s bookshops Santai Guan,Shuangfeng Tang and Nanjing Tang’s bookshops Wanjuan Lou,Shide Tang and Fuchun Tang. The characteristics of the two major publishing and engraving centers in the Ming Dynasty determined their irreplaceability, and the combination is bound to have a more profound impact on publishing industry and social culture. |
