Abstract/Summary:
In Food Safety and Quality-Based Shelf Life of Perishable Foods,the author discusses problems related to food safety from the perspective of globalization by quoting a large number of persuasive experimental data and references.This translation practice can provide references for the Chinese scholars who study food safety.Newmark puts forward semantic translation and communicative translation and thinks a translation is the combination of semantic translation and communicative translation with different focus.Based on that,the translator focuses on the application of semantic translation and communication translation at the level of vocabulary,syntactic and discourse.At the vocabulary level,the translator analyzes the translation of professional words,semi-professional words and non-professional words.When translating professional words,the translator uses the existed expression in parallel texts;when translating semi-professional words,the translator mainly uses semantic translation,and applies communicative translation based on the concrete context;when translating non-professional words,the translator uses semantic translation in most cases,but if the translation would cause misunderstanding to the target readers,the translator uses the communicative translation.At the syntactical level,for short sentences,simple sentences and parallel structures,the translator uses the semantic translation to preserve the original form;for long and complex sentences,the translator uses communicative translation to make the translation conform to the target language habits.At the discourse level,the translator uses the combination of semantic translation and communicative translation.For most words and parallel structures in it,the translator uses the semantic translation.For the logical relationships among sentences and paragraphs,the translator uses communicative translation.The effect of applying Newmark’s translation theory to this translation process is obvious.Therefore,both semantic translation and communicative translation can be applied to guide the future translation of technological informative texts.
