| The Song dynasty followed the system of titles conferred in the fifth dynasty of the Tang Dynasty, and the six titles of king, duke, marquis, uncle, son and male were assigned with the names of state, county and prefecture, and there were 13 categories of king, county king, state duke, county duke, county duke, county marquis, county marquis, county uncle, county son, county son, county male and county male, and 14 categories of heir king.In the Song Dynasty, the state names were mainly granted to kings and dukes, while the county names covered the six titles of kings, dukes, marquises, bukes, sons and males, and the county names covered the remaining five titles of dukes, marquises, bukes, sons and males, except for kings. The country names are divided into major, minor and small countries, and usually the country names used by the emperor before his reign are not granted to others. The names of states were mainly taken from the names of ancient states or ancient vassal states, but some were also from moral "praise names",and most of the recipients were members of the clan. The names of counties are mostly from the ancient counties corresponding to the state capitals in Song Dynasty, and are conferred according to the principle of county prestige. The names of counties were generally the actual names of places in Song Dynasty, and the fiefs were mostly based on the place of origin or official position of the fief.Although feudal places tended to be vague in the Song Dynasty, they still had symbolic meanings such as highlighting the origin of the county, praising the official’s history and declaring the status of sovereignty.Compared with Tang and Yuan dynasties, the four titles of marquis, bor, son and man were only county-level in the early Tang dynasty, but all four were county-level in the Song dynasty, while marquis and count were only county-level in the Yuan dynasty, and son and son were only county-level in the Song dynasty,so there was an obvious transitional nature in the Song dynasty. |
