| This paper takes the deformation style figure painting of Wu Bin and Chen Hongshou in the late Ming Dynasty as the main research object.During the late Ming Dynasty, the political environment was turbulent, the commodity economy developed rapidly, and the trend of social thought underwent a sharp transformation. In addition, the continuous introduction of Western culture made the cultural environment of the late Ming Dynasty vibrant and diverse, and some even claimed that the late Ming Dynasty was the starting point of China’s modernization. The prevalence of humanism, the coexistence of retro and novelty, the diversification of aesthetic tastes, and the personalized expression of painting concepts made the traditional figure painting take on the trend of rejuvenation in the late Ming Dynasty.Although it is not as good as the great achievements of figure painting in the previous dynasty,it is a great change in the history of ancient Chinese figure painting.Wu Bin pioneered the unique painting style of the late Ming Dynasty. His exaggerated and crazy figure painting is totally different from the traditional figure painting painting method, which is the best at that time;Chen Hongshou’s unconventional and exaggerated characters blend in with his profound spiritual temperament and personality traits, developing a unique and lively artistic style. The age difference between Wu Bin and Chen Hongshou is 31 years, and there is a common intersection of time and space, even the intersection of life.Under the aesthetic trend of advocating uniqueness in the late Ming Dynasty, they are not limited to the ancients’ rules in the creation of figure painting in the pursuit of change style. They are bold and innovative, and the more they paint, the more strange they are.Chen Hongshou,as the representative of the outstanding deformation style figure painting after Wu Bin,is bound to be influenced by Wu Bin when he has his own personality.Wu Bin will also pay attention to the achievements of Chen Hongshou, the "latecomer" of the deformation style of figure painting.Under the common era background of the two,we can dig deeply into the reality intersection between them and analyze and compare the similarities and differences of their figure painting works, which can have a better insight into the development process of figure painting with the late Ming Dynasty deformation style and how traditional figure painting can achieve rejuvenation.Based on the social psychological background of advocating novelty and the prevalence of humanistic thoughts in the late Ming Dynasty, the article analyzes the similarities and differences between Wu Bin and Chen Hongshou in the field of figure painting in terms of their specific reality intersection and their transformation techniques in figure painting subject matter, modeling rules, and technical characteristics,To sort out the development relationship between the two artists’ artistic styles, and at the same time,to concretely reflect the specific evolution of Chinese traditional figure painting in the late Ming Dynasty,is of great significance for understanding the dramatic change of artistic thoughts stimulated by the political turmoil and economic change in the late Ming Dynasty, analyzing the growth and struggle of artists in a specific era background, and the formation and maturity of artistic symbols and artists’ own styles. |
