| This report is based on the 2021 China Culture&Tourism Industries Development Summit,which was hosted by Xinhua News Agency on December 1st,2021.The summit included speeches and a discussion session,and focused on the future development of China Cultural&Tourism Industries.The author conducted a simulated C-E consecutive interpreting and by reviewing the interpreting process under the guidance of the Relevance Theory,this report analyzes the main difficulties in the simulated practice and explores the selection and utilization of interpreting strategies.According to the Relevance Theory,interpreting is the process of seeking the optimal relevance in ostensive-inferential and cognitive context.This report aims to explore how the interpreter can correctly deduce the intention of the speaker based on the context in interpreting practice,and accurately convey it to the target language audience,helping them achieve the same contextual effect as the source language audience with less processing effort.In this way,the accuracy and communicative effect of the interpretation can be improved,and the interlingual and cross-cultural communication can be promoted.Main difficulties the interpreter encountered include Chinese idioms and buzzwords,implicitness,metaphors and fragmented sentences.In order to solve these difficulties,the interpreter is required to have certain interpreting ability and be able to flexibly apply various interpreting strategies.The interpreting strategies for each difficulty adopted by the interpreter are:(1)paraphrasing:give explanations for idioms and buzzwords;(2)explicitation:make the implicit expressions clear;(3)literal interpreting:present the metaphors as they are;(4)amplification:add relevant missing information.It is hoped that these interpreting strategies can be used to achieve the optimal relevance in context.Through this report,the author hopes to accumulate experience in future interpreting practice,provide a new case for the application of the Relevance Theory in interpreting practice,and provide some references and guidance for other interpreting learners. |
