Ye Shaoyuan was an important literati of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the Jiangnan region. The two main focuses of the literary research of the Ye family have always been women’s literature and family literature. However, research on Ye Shaoyuan himself is still insufficient, especially in terms of his life experience, literary ideas, creative practices, and social interactions.Based on existing research and using newly discovered literature from Tianliao, this article aims to conduct an in-depth study of Ye Shaoyuan’s life stages, literary ideas, and important works. The article is divided into four parts:An introduction that outlines the research status and history of Ye Shaoyuan,as well as the research topic and significance.Chapter One compiles and examines newly discovered literature on Ye Shaoyuan.Based on the understanding of Ye Shaoyuan’s life divided into four stages, this chapter provides a detailed account of the compilation of the newly discovered literature, and analyzes the writings of Tianliao, including their sources, literary genres, and writing periods. This chapter lays the foundation for the study of Ye Shaoyuan’s literary ideas and creative practices, based on a comprehensive understanding of his life and personality.Chapter Two focuses on Ye Shaoyuan’s years of escaping to the mountains and his work "Jiaxing Daily Annotations".After the Yiyou Incident,Ye Shaoyuan fled with his son to the mountains, using physical and mental wandering and spiritual self-encouragement as a strategy to remember his homeland and resist the Qing court. The three different stages he went through during his exile were recorded in detail in the diary-style piece "Jiaxing Daily Annotations",with a particular emphasis on his poetry exchanges with his fellow literati.Through these exchanges,we can see the three different contexts of dreams, illness, and sorrow, reflecting the collective pursuit of the personality of the literati group in different types of literary texts. This chapter explores the personal survival status and common mentality of the Ming literati in the Jiangnan region through a case study approach.Chapter Three explores the relationship between Ye Shaoyuan’s literary ideas and the interplay with his creative practices.Based on a comprehensive understanding of Ye Shaoyuan’s life, this chapter combines existing literature with newly discovered literature to analyze the origins of Ye Shaoyuan’s literary ideas. It focuses on the transformation of his artistic views from "admiration of grandeur and emphasis on righteousness" and"greatness and hesitation" to "expressing individuality" and "integrating sound and color".This chapter also examines the dialectical relationship between his literary ideas and creative practices.
