Land use is an important human activity that determines the environmental, economic and social functions of an ecosystem. At present, many environmental and developmental problems faced by human beings are closely related to land use change, and relevant research has become a hot spot and international forefront of global change and ecosystem research. The source text Multifunctional Land Uses in Africa:Sustainable Food Security Solutions(《非洲多功能土地利用:粮食安全的可持续性解决方案》)is a scientific report compilations published by Routledge. With the case of land use in Africa, this report mainly describes the benefits of multifunctional land use on agricultural production and life and belongs to English for Science and Technology(EST).Chapter 1 Multifunctional land-use systems—a solution for food security in Africa?and chapter 2 Nigerian climate-smart agriculture practices with scaling potential of the scientific paper are selected as source text for this translation practice. This translation report consists of four chapters: project description, translation process, case analysis and summary. The difficulties involved in translation are mainly explained in case analysis.Under the guidance of three rules of Skopos Theory, based on the translation strategies, foreignization and domestication, and considering the differences between English and Chinese, the translator adopts appropriate translation methods to deal with the difficulties in translating process, such as zero translation, transliteration, literal translation and liberal translation and selects typical cases from three aspects: lexicon level, syntax level and discourse level for analysis. The translator has benefited a lot from this translation practice, and it is expected that this project can provide a useful reference for Chinese agricultural researchers and translators engaged in agricultural science and technology translation.
