Translation Report From The Perspectives Of Domestication And Foreignization

With a long history,China has been spreading its own culture and actively absorbing outstanding outcomes from other cultures,in which translation plays an exceedingly vital role.Social science readings,as a particular area,deserve reading and translating.It plays an important role in the human race and cultural transmission.Nevertheless,there are inadequate translations on such types of readings in China,and some translations focus too much on the original text,ignoring the readability among target readers,therefore,such translations can't completely achieve the function of the original text.This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Women Between Two Worlds.It centers on the principles of loyalty,coherence and purpose of Skopos theory,and explores the translation strategies for such genre from the perspectives of foreignization and domestication.Due to lots of English names,slang,parenthesis,written English and interview records with typical spoken English features and cultural characteristics are in this book,especially in chapter ?,the second chapter of this book is selected for analyzing the function of the original and target text from the perspectives of foreignization and domestication,trying to deliver the original text to the readers as much as possible on the principles of loyalty,coherence and purpose based on the Skopos theory.This report makes an analysis and introduction of the text,the author,the work style,translator's role and the purpose of this translation.At the same time,it states the preparation and analysis before translation,the carrying out of the translation plan,and the control of the translation quality.In case analysis part,this report specifically analyzes the application and selection of domestication and foreignization,which is based on the Skopos theory.And the analysis is principally conducted on the following points,including lexical and expression features,sentence patterns,discourse and language styles.Finally,the translator summarized corresponding principles and strategies available in translation of such social science readings.The last part is the conclusion,in which difficulties and problems encountered are summarized with a deep introspection,hoping this report will be of some help to the study on women development and provide a reference to other related translation.
