A Report On The C-E Translation Of Tourist Attractions In Shanxi Province Based On Reception Aesthetics

In recent years,China’s economy and international status have witnessed continuous growth.Under this social background,tourism has been developing rapidly.Places of interest in China have attracted a large number of foreign tourists,and publicity materials are the main channel for foreign tourists to know about tourist attractions.Therefore,it is particularly significant to provide high quality translations of scenic commentaries for the target readers.The readability of the translation of scenic commentaries is a significant premise for the publicity of scenic spots,and the theory of Reception Aesthetics attaches great importance to the status and role of readers.So this report chooses the theory of Reception Aesthetics to guide the translation of scenic commentaries in Longshan scenic area in order to publicize the scenic spots,promote the development of local economy,explore the expansion of Reception Aesthetics in tourism texts,and bring Chinese culture to the outside world.In the light of the characteristics of the original text,the author chooses the theory of Reception Aesthetics to guide the translation practice.The author uses various research methods such as literature research,case study and induction to complete this report.The author summarizes the main connotations of Reception Aesthetics after reading a large number of relevant literatures on it and applies these connotations into this translation practice.And then some typical examples are listed to illustrate the guiding role of Reception Aesthetics in the translation of scenic commentaries.Finally,the conclusion part summarizes the enlightenment from this translation practice and reflects on the insufficiencies in this report.The research suggests that the purpose of satisfying the reader’s horizon of expectation at the culture level can be realized through making appropriate compensations for the content of cultural information contained in the original text,such as adding the identity information of some famous historical figures in the original text,or annotating the background of some dynasties,or paraphrasing the phrase describing local customs in the original text;In addition,it is necessary to make reasonable conversions between Chinese and English to realize the integration of horizons between the translation and the reader at the language level.This thesis uses the methods including voice conversion,the conversion of topic and subject,nominalization and the adjustment of word order to ensure the readability and acceptability of the translation.Finally,the filling of the meaning blank should be divided into three levels including words,sentences and discourse.The blank at lexical level is mainly filled by adding annotations;the blank at sentence level is mainly filled by the conversion of implicit cohesion and explicit cohesion;the blank at discourse level is filled mainly by means of cohesion and coherence.To sum up,the author,under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics,chooses appropriate translation strategies and methods based on the characteristics of the original text and different aims of translation to make the translation easy to understand,authentic and natural so as to achieve the purposes of information exchange and external dissemination of Chinese culture,in the hope of making this report a reference for future study.
