Lidang Yao Township is one of the Yao autonomous townships in Mashan County.According to the county records,the Yao people living here are of the Bunu Yao branch,and the local people call themselves the Overhill Yao.The main form of music in Lidang Yao Township is folk songs,with singers concentrated in Beiping Village,Lidang Community,Yalian Village,Longqin Village and Longna Village.According to the author’s collection of records,11 living folk songs exist.This paper investigates and researches the local Bunu Yao living folk songs by taking the living folk songs of Lidang Yao community as the object of investigation.Based on the theoretical approach of ethnomusicology and survey methods,the research visits Lidang Yao Township to explore the musical and cultural phenomena of this clan from various perspectives,such as geographical environment,ethnic origin,folk beliefs and musical genres,to record the original folk songs,analyse the structure of musical forms and extract the musical and cultural factors related to the culture,and analyse the cultural phenomenon from a multi-dimensional perspective.The aim is to present an objective and complete picture of the living folk songs of the Bunu Yao in Lidang Township,and to provide a reliable research material for the study of Yao music.Taking the living folk songs of Lidang Yao Township as the object of investigation,the body of this paper is divided into four chapters:Part I: An account of the human ecological environment of Lidang Yao Township.It describes the context in which the music culture is generated from various aspects,including the natural environment and the human environment,to understand the factors that have shaped the music culture in Lidang Yao Township;it outlines the living folk songs of Lidang Bunuyao,the existing folk music societies,and the mode of transmission of living folk songs and the mode of transmission.Part II: A description of the investigation of the living folk songs of the Bunuyao in Lidang Township,with a complete explanation of the investigation of folk singers and folk music groups in Lidang Yao Township and the current situation of the survival of folk songs.Part III: A comprehensive analysis of the morphological characteristics of the living folk songs of Lidang Yao Township,including their lyrical structure,song structure,tonal array,spatial characteristics,liner notes,singing style and other artistic features,and a summary of the musical morphological characteristics of the living folk songs of Lidang Yao Township.Part IV: This chapter will elaborate on the cultural environment of Lidang Yao Township from six aspects.The cultural fusion phenomenon in the Bu Nuyao living folk songs of Lidang Township,the relationship between the Bu Nuyao living folk songs of Lidang Township and the social environment,the character and psychology of the folk singers of Lidang Township as reflected by the "Bu Nuyao folk songs",the social group relationship of the Bu Nuyao folk singers of Lidang Township,the cultural value of the Bu Nuyao living folk songs of Lidang Township,and the cultural value of the Bu Nuyao living folk songs of Lidang Township.
