| Vaccine is a milestone-like development in the history of human civilization. With the boosting of the COVID-19,the R&D,the distribution mechanism and the development of the vaccine industry in the post-pandemic era have become the topics which atractted worldwide attention. In this translation practice, the translator selected Vaccines as Technology:Innovation,Barriers, and the Public Health as the original text, which was written by Ana Santos Rutschman,an American expert on vaccine law and policy. The full text contains more than 90,000 words. The translator selected Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 to translate, which systematically elaborated the R&D and distribution mechanism of the vaccine. The original text belongs to the professional scientific and technological text which contains part of medical and legal content.Due to the differences in logical thinking and expression habits between English and Chinese,Sci-Tech texts are widely characterized by multiple terms, complex sentences,as well as the strong logic of the discourse. Therefore, there are implicit logical relations, which require the translator to carry out logical judgment and reasonable analysis, among words, sentences and paragraphs. The translator summarizes the problems of implicit logic during translating into the following three aspects: lexical translation, long sentence translation and the discourse structure. In order to solve these problems,Vinay and Darbelnet’s explicitation theory is adopted to put forward the strategies: dynamic explicitation and semantic amplification are proposed to solve the problems of implicit logical relations in words;conversion, splitting and recombination are proposed to solve the problems of implicit logical relations in clauses;Spatio-temporal order recombination and causality focus displacement are proposed to solve the problems of implicit logical structures. These translation strategies can guide translators to work out the difficulties of implicit logical relations during the practice, and it is hoped that the translation practice can provide ideas and references for other translators. |
