The Mongolian patterns are an important branch of the common cultural symbol system of the Chinese nation."ol?ei·xe" is the most typical traditional Mongolian decorative pattern, which can represent the aesthetic scope of the northern nomadic people and contains folk culture. In Mongolian language,"Ol?ei" means " auspiciousness" and "Xe" means "sign" and "pattern".Based on the perspectives of "diachronic" and "synchronic" combined with the design methodology, this study focuses on the analysis of the diachronic evolution of the Mongolian "Ol?ei " pattern meaning and the synchronic cognition of the structure, and carries out corresponding design practice.First, from the perspective of diachronic, this paper reveals the pattern of "Ol?ei" through three diachronic symbols and shapes of ancient Hindu "?rīvatsa",Tibetan Buddhism "Dpal be’u" and Mongolian "Ol?ei".The result is a synchronic Mongolian "uliji" structure(i.e.,woven "knot").It explores the evolution between the meaning of words, symbols, and shapes in the process of three transformations, taking the "pattern" semantics as a clue.Secondly,it deconstructs the synchronic structural features of "Ol?ei" pattern structure from the perspective of "synchronic".Through sorting and comparing the different forms of patterns,it is concluded that the pattern structure of "Ol?ei" has three characteristics: "continuity","proportion" and "space".The visual expression of "Ol?ei" pattern has two rhetorical forms: "combination relationship",which focuses on the combination of "Ol?ei" and other auspicious patterns, and "expression form",which focuses on different decorative forms such as materials and production techniques. The pattern structure has the general decorative aesthetic characteristics of Mongolian people, such as "rigidity and flexibility","stability and symmetry",and "fullness and density".Thirdly, the paper analyzes the existing visual communication design cases of "Ol?ei" pattern, and summarizes the existing innovative design methods. Finally, from the perspectives of "diachronic" and "synchronic",the paper puts forward the design strategy of "Ol?ei" pattern innovation transformation and carries out design practice. The first is the transformation of "image narrative" from the perspective of "diachronic",the second is the "deconstruction" design from the perspective of "synchronic",and the third is the design fusion of "diachronic" and "synchronic" perspectives, with "Jiyun" as the theme.Excavating the historical and cultural connotation of "Ol?ei" pattern and exploring its visual modeling innovation have enriched the existing research results of Mongolian patterns, and played a positive role in promoting the protection and inheritance of patterns and design innovation.
