English writing serves as a crucial instrument for assessing learners’ proficiency and practical application of English knowledge,reflecting their comprehensive level of English knowledge.A well-structured writing teaching is conducive to enhancing students’ writing performance and shaping their attitudes towards writing.Currently,in junior high school,English writing teaching prioritizes language knowledge and writing skills.Students lack writing experience and sufficient motivation.Production-oriented Approach(POA),as a foreign language teaching approach with Chinese characteristics,offers a novel perspective and approach to the reform of English writing teaching,with its advanced teaching principles,systematic teaching hypotheses and scientific teaching process.Based on the construction of a model of POA applied in English writing in junior high school,a 12-week quasi-experimental study is conducted.This study focuses on two questions:(1)what are the effects on students’ writing performance by applying POA in English writing teaching in junior high school?(2)how does POA applied in English writing teaching affect students’ writing attitudes in junior high school?Students from two parallel classes in Grade Eight of a junior high school in Guangzhou are randomly allocated as the experimental group and the control group.POA is implemented in English writing teaching in the experimental group while regular English writing teaching is adopted in the control group.With statistic software SPSS 27.0,the relevant data of tests,questionnaires and interviews are processed and analyzed.The results show that:(1)POA applied in junior high school can effectively improve junior high school students’ writing performance,and in students’ writing,the content,language accuracy,and fluency are improved to different degrees.(2)POA applied in junior high school can effectively promote students’ writing confidence,and change students’ attitudes towards English writing in terms of cognition,emotion and behavior to a certain extent.This study confirms the effectiveness of POA applied in English writing teaching to a certain degree,which provides a reference for the reform of English writing teaching in junior high school.
