| The development of travel prose in the Northern Song Dynasty was inseparable from two key figures-Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi.They are called "Ou Su" in the field of prose,which is also the two peaks in the field of travel prose.Journey prose is an important literary style for literati to record their travels,depict scenery,express emotions,and understand reason.Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi’s travel notes inherited the essence of the ancient literary movement and were influenced by the writings of Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan.They integrated the spirit of the Song Dynasty,social style,and personal feelings,and composed high-quality travel notes.Together,they promoted the development of travel notes in various aspects such as literary style,consciousness,and creative techniques.First of all,this paper takes the travel essays of Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi as a whole,and combines the spirit of scholar-officials and the change of political career to explore the creation causes of the travel essays of Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi,as well as the ideological commonalities and internal differences.Considering the necessity of spatial environment for travel prose and the emotional sustenance of space,this study analyzes the differences in spatial consciousness between the two individuals from the perspective of spatial origin,and compares their different emotional sustenance using a specific space as a model.After analyzing the external factors mentioned above,the subjective consciousness expressed in their travel essays is divided into three levels: self,nature,and philosophy.From the perspectives of enhancing their self-expression intention,enhancing their awareness of natural life,and deepening their rational thinking consciousness,we can see the similarities and differences in their creative consciousness of travel notes,and thus gain a deeper understanding of Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi’s outlook on life,values,and universe.Finally,based on the subjective consciousness,a comparative analysis is conducted on the creative techniques of the two’s travel prose,with the main exploration direction being the structural layout,language characteristics,and expression methods.Looking at the similarities and differences in their travel writing techniques from three perspectives:the beauty of layout changes,the refinement of language,and the diversity of expression,in order to deeply analyze the different aesthetic concepts and artistic contributions of Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi.They focus more on themselves,convey selfawareness,excel in argumentation and reasoning,and have a strong philosophical and speculative significance.The comparative analysis of Ouyang Xiu’s and Su Shi’s travel essays is an individual analysis and in-depth understanding of the spirit of literati and officialdom in the Song Dynasty from the perspective of travel works.which shows the process of gradually recognizing the aesthetic concept of "literature" and gradually becoming independent,and also a detailed explanation of the three thoughts of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism in the Song Dynasty.It highlights the independent and uplifting spirit and rich and diverse aesthetic trends of travel notes in the mid Song Dynasty,and plays a exemplary role in the development of Chinese travel literature history. |
