| In recent years, online teaching has become popular, and the impact of individual differences on the effectiveness of online learning has gradually become a research hotspot. To study the learning style of international students learning Chinese in an online learning environment, this study selected 158 international students from Laos,Thailand,Cambodia, and Vietnam at a university in Guizhou as the research subjects, and used three research methods: questionnaire survey, classroom observation, and semi-structured interviews. The following research results were obtained:1.The overall tendency of international students’ Chinese learning styles is: kinesthetic> depenent> visual>auditory> sequential> impulsive> reflective> analytical> independent> intuitive>comprehensive.2.There are significant gender differences among international students in three learning styles: sequential, intuitive, and dependent.Male students are more inclined to these three learning styles than female students. There are also significant differences in independent learning style among different categories of international students.Non-degree students are more inclined to independent styles than degree students. There are significant differences in sequential and reflective Chinese learning styles among international students from different countries.Thai and Vietnamese international students are more inclined to sequential Chinese learning style than Cambodian international students;Vietnamese students are more inclined to reflective Chinese learning style than Cambodian and Laotian international students.3.Kinesthetic and sequential Chinese learning styles are significantly positively correlated with HSK scores, that is,the higher the HSK score, the more inclined a student is toward these two Chinese learning styles in an online learning environment. In contrast, analytic learning style is significantly negatively correlated with HSK scores, that is,the lower the HSK score, the more inclined the student will be toward analytic Chinese learning style in an online learning environment.4.There are four factors that affect international students’ Chinese learning styles: students themselves, learning environment, teachers, and teaching content.Among them, students themselves are the main factor.Based on the research results, this study proposes specific teaching and learning recommendations in hopes of providing reference for international students’ Chinese learning in an online learning environment and improving the efficiency of Chinese learning and teaching in such settings. |
