UJE and HARA are the most widely used visual action verbs with the most meanings and the strongest word-formation ability in Mongolian vocabulary.Despite a modest proportion of compound verbs in compound words, their semantic analysis remains scarce. In view of this, this research extracts113 compound verbs formed by “UJE、HARA” from the Mongolian Dictionary(1999),the Mongolian-Chinese Dictionary(1999),and the Mongolian Compound Word Corpus for semantic analysis. The research framework is as follows:The research consists of Introduction,Chapter I,Chapter II,Chapter III,Conclusions. The Introduction describes the research background, status, purpose, significance, and methodologies,as well as the data sources. In Chapter I,the scope of “UJE、HARA” vocabulary in Mongolian was first identified and the principles of its selection were determined.Second, the criteria for defining “UJE、HARA” compound verbs was proposed based on the structure and meaning of compound words, and the compound verbs formed by “see” were semantically classified by means of sememe analysis.Chapter II examines the metaphors and metonymies of “UJE、HARA”compound verbs. Some “UJE、HARA” compound verbs are found to create metaphors and metonymies with their main component “UJE、HARA”,while some create metaphors and metonymies as a whole.Chapter III mainly discusses the word-formation motivation of “UJE、HARA” compound verbs from the perspective of category theory. It was found that their word-formation modes include the “object+basic category”,“manner+basic category”,and “overlap category”.The Conclusions summarize the research content and results and the limitations and recommendations for further research work.
