There are two Hakka dialects that are commonly used in Bitou Town,Quannan County. This thesis takes the phonology of Bitou Hakka dialect as the research object.Based on the first-hand materials obtained through field investigation, this thesis adopts historical comparative method and synchronic comparative method to study Hakka dialects in Zhushan of Bitou,Zhoubu of Bitou,Longyuanba,Shejing and Longxia. The aims are: first, describing the phonology of Bitou Hakka dialect in detail, sorting out its phonetic overview, and summarizing the phonetic characteristics;secondly, placing Bitou Hakka dialect in the northern part of Quannan Hakka dialect for investigation, analyzing and exploring its internal differences and relatively special phonetic phenomena;thirdly, exploring the internal segmentation and segmentation reasons of the northern part of Quannan Hakka dialect. This thesis consists of six parts:The introduction, briefly introduces the history, geography and dialect of Quannan County. The research status of Quannan Hakka dialect, the research object, research significance, research methods, dialect selection and material source of this thesis are also introduced. The first chapter and the second chapter respectively describe the phonetic system and continuous tone change of two characters, sort out the collocation between initials, finals and tones, respectively analyze the internal phonetic differences and list homophonic characters of Zhushan Hakka dialect and Zhoubu Hakka dialect. The third chapter shows correspondence between present Bitou Hakka dialect and medieval phonology from initials, finals and tones.Furtherly, reveals phonology overview of Bitou Hakka dialect, and summarizes its phonetic characteristics. The fourth chapter compares the phonology of Hakka dialects in Zhushan and Zhoubu of Bitou with the phonology of Hakka dialects in Longyuanba,Shejing and Longxia,to analyze the geographical similarities and differences in the northern part of Quannan Hakka dialect, and study the present-day pronunciation of ancient Liu and Xie.The conclusion is that: Liu add an “i”before the main vowel;in the Hakka dialects of Longyuanba and Zhushan, the finals of rhyme ending “u” in the opening-mouth first class characters of Liu fall off, promoting the finals of the opening-mouth forth class characters of Xie shifting from “e” to “i”.Finally, six internal distinguishing features of the northern part of Quannan Hakka dialect are summarized and take them as segmentation criteria to classify the Hakka dialects in 5 places. The Hakka dialect in Longyuanba and Zhushan are classified into the LONGYUANBA dialect, the Hakka dialect in Zhoubu and Shejing are classified into the SHEJING dialect, and the Longxia Hakka dialect has the characteristics of two areas. And the SHEJING dialect is the exception to the main phonetic feature of NINGLONG dialect, which is that the finals of the ancient closing-mouth second class characters do not have a “u” vowel before the main vowel, and the character “Geng” does not have either. The conclusion summarizes the main content and research conclusions of the first five parts, and points out the deficiency of this thesis.
