Under the complex social background of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Ming Dynasty,Wang Guowei,Liang Qichao,Cai Yuanpei and other aesthetic education pioneers discovered the special power of aesthetic education to save the country and the people.As the chief education director in the early years of the Republic of China,his unique social status enabled Cai Yuanpei to develop his aesthetic education concept on the basis of inheriting the wisdom of his predecessors,which triggered a social aesthetic education boom.As one of the founders of modern Chinese aesthetic education,Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas have been integrated into Chinese and Western for a long time.The deafening “religious theory of aesthetic education” saved the people who fell into a crisis of faith in the early years of the Republic of China and impacted the decadent religious concepts,and the interpretation of China’s traditional personality education thought is still chewy.The soil of theory has cultivated the seedlings of practice,and Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education practice activities are in full swing,among which art education has become an important means for him to practice aesthetic education.Under his advocacy and practice,a large number of aesthetic education theorists and art educators have appeared in all walks of life.They responded to Cai Yuanpei’s concept of“Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion”and hoped to realize the function of aesthetic education through the power of art education,so as to achieve the purpose of saving the survival.Set up professional art colleges,set up art teaching associations,attach importance to family aesthetic education,improve social and public aesthetic education facilities,and attach importance to art education to put aesthetic education into practice.At the same time,through a series of art education practice activities,the emotional value and humanistic spirit of aesthetic education have been excavated,and aesthetic education has become popularized in the process of implementation.However,the development of aesthetic education over the past hundred years has not been optimistic,and the progress has been tortuous.The aesthetic education using art education as a means has fallen into the double dilemma of cognition and practice.Many views and actions contained in Cai Yuanpei’s art education practice activities under the background of the thought of”Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion”can still provide reference and reference for the promotion of aesthetic education and art education today,the reshaping of the humanistic spirit and the development of the aestheticization of daily life.This paper is divided into three parts,which analyses in depth the art education practice activities in the context of the idea of ”Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion” from 1917 to 1937.The first part focuses on the background and theoretical exploration of the times proposed by“Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion”and the practical work of aesthetic education by Cai Yuanpei himself.The second part focuses on the practice of art education in the context of“Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion”,from the perspective of professional art school education,art Starting from education,it reveals the humanities of art education and the correct view of art education,as well as the social influence generated by art education practice.The third part is based on the evaluation of art education practice research under the background of the thought of “Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion” in the current era,and discusses the idea of“Substituting Aesthetic Education for Religion” and its aesthetic education The reference role of education and art education.
