Cai Yuanpei's Aesthetic Education Thought On Musical Views

From historical perspective,this thesis investigated Cai Yuanpei's perspective on music by collecting and reorganizing related literature which is a significant aspect in his aesthetic education thought.Meanwhile,his perspective on music is systematically elaborated in this thesis from its formation background,connotation and extension,reduction to practice and its value in contemporary.With certain kind of musicianship,Cai Yuanpei attached great importance to music in his aesthetic education thought.It also draw nourishment from the essence of Confucianism and western philosophy.For one thing,in the process of practicing musical aesthetic education,Cai tended to achieve two main goals--to eliminate“the difference of others and oneself” and to transcend “the pursuit of happiness”--by the universality and transcendence which is contained in music,thereby one can cultivate temperament and enrich personality.For another,according to his perspective on music,music can somehow also contribute to moral education and science by practicing aesthetic enducation.There are three main approachs to bring Cai's perspective on music down to earth: first,family aesthetic enducation,which is reflected in the selection and usage of music when it comes to fetal and early childhood education;second,school aesthetic enducation,which is reflected on Cai Yuanpei's pratice both in promoting the construction of music clubs and paying close attention to musical academic research;third,social aesthetic enducation,in which concert plays a significant role.The characteristic of Cai's perspective on music lies in the intergration of eastern and western culturals and intense humanistic concern;its historical contribution is that,it started the development progress of contemporary music aesthetic enducation.The inspiration related to music is mainly shown in four aspects: enhance humanistic concern in music,pass down and develope chinese traditional culture,combine music with other related discipline,strengthen music teachers' aesthetic cultivation.Till now,the impact of Cai Yuanpei's music aesthetic education thought has lasted for over a hundred years,but continued to flourish.It is also a precious ideological legacy which is worth valuing and ceaseless investigating.
