Special education,as a critical part of education, plays a significant role in building a high-quality education system and embodies the level of social civilization and progress. However, although the development of special education in China has made great progress, there is still a long way to go to achieve the special education development goals of China. Therefore,it is required to actively learn from the advanced experiences of other countries in the education of disabled children. The book,Ableism in Education: Rethinking School Practices and Policies, was written based on in-depth research on the education issues of disabled children and analysis of their influencing factors. It proposed plans for schools to cultivate disabled children and carry out inclusive education to advance fair and equitable education. Therefore, the Chinese translation of this book not only helps us understand the experience of foreign countries in special education, but also stimulates reflection on the current education problems of disabled children, strengthens care for disabled children, and better serves the education of disabled children.Guided by the Translation Shifts Theory, three chapters of this book had been translated while grasping the acceptance level of the target readers and the academic and scientific characteristics of special education texts.Starting from the differences between English and Chinese languages, the necessity of translation conversion had been analyzed. And the specific types of transformations under level and category shifts had been summarized in this report, where the translator also studied how these transformations effectively were applied to solve the translation problems of words, sentences, and expressions in this text,to be in line with the characteristics of Chinese special education texts. It is expected that this report can exert some insights and reference for the translation practice of special education texts in the future.
