A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of Computer Text From The Perspective Of Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory

5G technology will lead a new era of intelligent world.On the one hand,industrial interconnection,will provide huge development space for Big Data and cloud computing in the future;on the other hand,cloud computing and Big Data itself can also drive the innovation of a series of new technologies and new models,providing new thinking and new means for human beings to understand and deal with complex problems.Big Data and cloud computing industry in China started late,so China’s Big Data development is still some way behind the leading countries.Therefore,conducting research on the translation of such texts and effectively organizing and using cloud computing and Big Data will give a huge boost to China’s social economy,scientific research and national governance in the 5G era.Catford expounds the types of translation shifts from the perspective of general linguistics.namely level shifts and category shifts.Level shifts include four levels of language,namely grammar,phonology,graphology and lexis shift;category shifts include structure shift,category shift,unit shift and intra-system shift.The report aims to use some examples of mobile cloud computing and Big Data in the book Advances in Mobile Cloud Computing and Big Data in the 5G Era as a model for translation research.Based on the translation shift theory of Catford,a famous western translation theorist,the author explains its application to the English-Chinese(E-C)translation of computer texts,and analyzes its effectiveness and limitations.Under the guidance of this theory,combined with the characteristics of computer texts and translation examples,this report summarizes the translation of text vocabulary,syntax,discourse and other aspects by analyzing the stylistic characteristics of the source text.Through the specific interpretation and evaluation of translation cases,the report demonstrates the guiding role of Catford’s translation transformation theory in the practice of computer translation texts.The translation research verifies the applicability of Catford’s translation shifts theory in the translation practice of computer-related texts and broadens the scope of application of the theory,which provides guidance for the translation practice of English to Chinese translation of computer-based texts,and provides certain reference for similar translation research and practice in the future.
