In the 21 st century, the aging of the population has become a social problem troubling many countries, and the elderly have increasingly become the focus of attention in the political, economic and cultural fields.Under such circumstances, the global film industry has successively created a number of films with the theme of the elderly and the life of the elderly as the theme to reflect the problems of the elderly.Britain,as one of the countries that entered the aging population earlier in the world, its old age films are influenced by their own culture, with a large number and unique characteristics. This paper takes the British films on the theme of the elderly since the new century as the main research object, and on the basis of grasping the development context and creative characteristics of such films, puts the identity theory from the perspective of film and television art creation. It is found that British films on the theme of the elderly explain the inherent logic of the identity crisis of the elderly through image symbols, plot settings and role categories. And with the significance of characterization, the artistic conception of the reproduction space and the meaning of the image point of view to build the main identity path of the film,to guide the film characters and movie-watching groups to achieve self-identification and examination of the state of life. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions on the creation of elderly films based on the positive aging strategy,in order to expand the infiltrative influence of identity theory on British elderly films.
