| Science and technology constitute a primary productive force.Throughout the history, every human progress is accompanied by scientific and technical innovations. The modern science and technology,as one of the main drivers of world economy and society, have greatly raised people’s living standards. In the era of globalization, the exchange between nations is one of the key factors for the high-quality development of science and technology. However, language is a major barrier to the communication between the experts and scholars in different countries. The translation of scientific and technical texts aims to break this barrier, thus promoting the scientific communication and technology innovation.Computer science and technology is one of the most important science and technology in the information age,and it is still developing. Therefore, the author chose Chapter 14: Cybersecurity and Confidential Computing Architectures of the book Modern Computer Architecture and Organization(Second Edition)as the material of the translation practice. The book is written by Jim Ledin and published in May,2022.And the content of the source text is mainly about computer software and hardware security technology. It is hoped that the translation will allow more practitioners and students in relevant industries to access the cutting-edge knowledge in this field.Based on the author’s translation practice, the report integrates the Cognitive Construal Theory with the translation studies from the perspective of Cognitive Translatology and discusses the translation strategies, methods and techniques applied in the E-C translation of the above-mentioned scientific and technical text from the four dimensions of Cognitive Construal through the analysis of the source text and the target text.As a new paradigm of Translatology,Cognitive Translatology still needs further development and improvement. The author hopes that this report can provide some reference for the future studies of Cognitive Translatology in the field of scientific and technical texts,as well as for the localization of science and technology books. This study has found that scientific and technical texts propose higher requirements for translators in terms of professional knowledge compared with other kinds of texts.Besides, from the four dimensions of Cognitive Construal, namely specificity, focusing, prominence, and perspective, translators shall not only accurately grasp the true meaning of the source text, but also employ appropriate translation skills so as to provide a new perspective for readers to correctly and efficiently understand the meaning of the target text. |
