Logical Semantics Of Time Nouns And Frequency Time Adverbs In Modern Chinese

Previous studies on natural language time system mostly started from the perspective of traditional grammar,but few studies on its logical semantic analysis.At present,the formal semantics of natural language time system has been studied by Dowty.On the basis of Dowty’s research,this paper makes corresponding adjustments to the syntactic structure and translation rules by analyzing the differences between Chinese and English,so as to study the logical semantics of Chinese time nouns.The study of Chinese time adverbs expressing frequencies is based on the related research of Jia Gaiqin,a domestic scholar.Aiming at the semantic model of time adverbs expressing frequencies constructed by Jia Gaiqin,this paper gives a more precise definition.This paper is divided into five chapters to discuss the logical semantics of time nouns and frequency time adverbs in modern Chinese.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly introduces the significance of the topic,the main theoretical basis,the research ideas,the main contents and the difficulties of the study.Chapter Two reviews the current research situation of time system in modern Chinese,and the definition and classification of time nouns and frequency adverbs.Chapter Three is the preparation of Chapter Four,focusing on Dowty’s formal analysis of English time adverbs "today" and "yesterday" and Jia Gaiqin’s formal treatment of frequency time adverbs.The content of this chapter provides an important theoretical basis and technical guidance for the next chapter on the logical semantics of Chinese time nouns and frequency time adverbs.The work of Chapter Four is based on this.Chapter Four is the focus and innovation of this paper.The logical semantics of Chinese time nouns and frequency time adverbs are studied.In the analysis of logical semantics of Chinese time nouns and frequency time adverbs,the first step is to explore the semantic characteristics of time words themselves with corpus;the second step is to give the syntactic rules of time words;and then to translate time nouns into logical expressions or to characterize the logical semantics of Chinese frequency time adverbs with the method of logical semantics model theory.The last chapter is the outlook.The main work,innovation and shortcomings of this paper are introduced,and the future work of the author is prospected.
