The Benevolent Government Political Philosophy Of Dong Zhongshu

In the Political Thought of Confucianism in Ancient China,“Benevolent Government” is a term with specific meanings,it shows Confucianism’s understanding and pursuit about ideal political governance.Chinese Traditional Confucianism who spoke about the theory of Benevolent Government,As a matter of fact,disscussed what kind of politics is good and moral politics.Confucianism’s development and practice of Benevolent Government has undergone a gradual and in-depth process.From the Confucian point of view,Benevolent Government is a government way which is morally,is also the way of the past kings’ governance practice,and is the way of governance opposite to hegemony.During the Han Dynasty,With the great evolution of history and the improvement of the political thinking level of Confucianists,Their understanding and practice of Benevolent Government also showed a higher level.As a master of Confucianism in the early Western Han Dynasty,Dong Zhongshu is a representative of the political institutionalization and religionization of Confucianism in the Han Dynasty,his Benevolent Government,to a certain extent,represents the Confucianists’ understanding in this period.He regards Confucianism as the subject,fully absorb the good qualities of the Yin-Yang School,Legalism,Mohism,Taoism and other various thinking,accomplished the transformation of Confucianism,stroke up a Benevolent Government ideological system of "Great Unity" which Metaphysical based on the thinking of human and nature induction,thus,it deeply influenced the feudal society of China for more than2000 years.This is of great benefit for us to promote the modernization of national governance system and governance capacity today.This study is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction,which elaborates the background and significance of the topic selection,introduces the research status,research methods,difficulties and innovations.The second part explores the origin of Dong Zhongshu’s Benevolent Government thought from the background of the times and the theoretical basis of its formation.The third part starts from the main content of Dong Zhongshu’s Benevolent Government thought,and constructs the framework of his Benevolent Government thought system.The fourth part sums up the characteristics of Dong Zhongshu’s Benevolent Government thought and the development of Confucian Benevolent Government thought in the pre-Qin period according to the content of Dong Zhongshu’s Benevolent Government thought.At the same time,combined with the practice degree of the rulers in history,explores the influence of Dong Zhongshu’s Benevolent Government on later generations.
