In the long history of world record film,there are not many female directors engaged in Documentary creation.What we know more internationally is the controversial German director Leni Riefenstahl.Her works "Triumph of the will" and "Olympia" are the most influential works in the history of Documentary Film.After World War II,Nicole Vedres,a French female director,carefully produced the Documentary “Paris 1900”,which revealed the internal structure of the upper class and the undercurrent that triggered World War I with humor and irony.Another French Documentary Director,Agnes Varda,filmed "La Pointe-Courte" in 1954,which is considered to be the pioneering work of the new wave of France.In his 60 s,Varda still has unique creativity and valuable passion for Documentary creation.In 2017,She completed "Villages" and was nominated for the Best Documentary Award of the 90 th Academy Award.In the history of Chinese Documentary Films,most female documentary directors create as independent documentary directors.At the same time,the configuration of products is higher,which has brought great convenience to the creation of female directors.More and more women have joined the creation of documentaries.For example,directors Mary,AI Xiaoming,Feng Yan,Yang Lina,Li Hong,Liu Xiaojin and Dong Xueying all focus on the representative characters around them and observe the progress of the story and the delicate changes of the characters’ emotions from the unique perspective of women,Through characterization,it deeply reflects the psychological and social problems of the characters.With the progress of science and technology,the volume of camera equipment is reduced and easy to carry.Since entering the 21 st century,with the wide spread of feminism and female consciousness,more and more women have united to fight for their own interests and obtained more rights of political participation and economic autonomy.Women have attracted much attention from the society,so there are many documentary works showing the current situation of women’s life,forming a type of documentary about women-female theme documentary.At present,the performance objects of domestic female documentaries are relatively wide,and women in all sectors and strata of society have shown,recording the living state of women in all strata of society.Both male and female documentary directors have participated in the creation of female documentaries.Due to the physiological and gender differences between men and women,women’s emotional expression is often more delicate.When the subject is a woman,the female director can go deeper into the life of the subject,so as to capture the private moments that the male director may not see,Moreover,female directors can produce stronger empathy than men,so male directors and female directors will be different in the way and theme of shaping female images.This paper mainly focuses on the female image in the documentary created by female directors,and analyzes and expounds the shaping of female image in the documentary from six aspects.The first chapter is an overview of the construction of female images in documentaries from the perspective of female directors’ creation,including the definition of relevant concepts and the systematic elaboration of the theoretical basis of thesis creation.The next part is the analysis of the construction types,construction context,construction methods and construction significance of female images in documentaries from the perspective of female directors’ creation.In the construction type,it is mainly divided by occupation and age.In the context of the construction of female images,it mainly analyzes the social background of female directors’ creation from three aspects: the reform of the national economic system,the spread of feminism in China and the progress of science and technology.The next chapter mainly analyzes the female directors’ portrayal of female images in documentaries from two women’s life and the resistance to male chauvinism and traditional social concepts expressed in the documentary from two aspects: the narration of women’s collective trauma and the awakening and resistance of women’s consciousness.The content of the sixth chapter is to explain the documentary creation practice from the perspective of female directors’ creation,analyze and discuss the graduation work hoe,account book and camera through the above theory,mainly from the aspects of narration and image expression,summarize the gains in the documentary creation process,and reflect on the problems in the creation.The last part is the summary of this paper.It is also the reflection and Prospect of the construction of female images in documentaries from the perspective of female directors’ creation.Through the research on the development context,character image analysis and image expression means of female dominated documentaries created by female directors,it reflects on the problems in the process of documentary creation,as well as the reflection on the survival status of female groups reflected in documentaries,It is hoped that more women can examine their own social status after watching the documentary and dare to make changes,so as to improve women’s awareness of social rights and autonomy.
