| As a means of publicity,the translation of political text plays a critical role in spreading the voice of China.The translation of the Chapter 4 of the book New Development Pattern,is expected to make our stories and voices heard by offering some reference on China’s economic and political realities.Taking the hot issue of China’s supply-side structural reform as a topic,the selected text mainly reveals main problems in promoting the reform and points out paths to deepen the reform,so as to ensure a smooth circulation between supply and demand.As a political essay,the source text has both informative and expressive functions,and has the purpose of calling on all sectors of society to participate in policy implementation,representing multiple communicative purposes.That’s why the translator analyzes the source text from both extra-linguistic and intra-linguistic perspectives to clarify the communicative intentions,text type,stylistic features and linguistic style of the discourse.Based on the linguistic characteristics of the source text,the translator explores difficulties encountered in translation practice at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels to summarize feasible solutions.Under the guidance of discourse linguistics,the translator adopts translation methods such as free translation,paraphrasing and addition to recover the meaning of terms and terminology from the relationship of context and discourse,and the communicative purposes of the source text;for the differences in the information structure of Chinese and English sentences,the translator benefits from patterns of thematic progression and mainly makes sentence adjustments to arrange the subject of sentences,identify the primary and secondary information and balance the sentence structure;and for the reconstruction of logical relations in the translated text,the translator is inspired by discourse cohesion theory,adopting methods such as explicit logic relations and adding cohesion devices to reconstruct the logic of the translated text.To sum up,the three major analytical modes of discourse linguistics: genre analysis,theme-rheme theory and discourse cohesion theory provide theoretical guidance for resolving translation difficulties.Through this translation practice,the translator has formed an awareness of discourse through comparing differences in the arrangement of information between the source and target languages on the basis of understanding the communicative purpose,linguistic style and norms of the source text,so as to achieve the reconstruction of logical coherence of the translated text.This report,guided by the theory of discourse analysis,takes the translation practice of political text as research object,which can not only accurately convey the information in the source text,but also be able to improve the theoretical depth of the translation of political texts,showing reference for the translation study of such texts. |
