Comparative Study On The Self-portraits Of Female Painters In The Republic Of China

In today’s society,the issue of women rights has become more and more focused,so what kind of women are independent and confident,and what kind of female images are worthy of our study and pursuit.As for these questions,we can find some answers from the group of female artists.During the Period of the Republic of China,although the situation was turbulent,many ideas clashed fiercely,which was the beginning of the enlightenment of the people.Therefore,"new" women came into being.They had different backgrounds,different experiences and different personalities,but the same thing was that they all had talent and courage.Influenced by the "May 4th movement" to transform the old culture,most of the new female painters studied Western painting in new art schools or chose to study abroad.They represent a new generation of intellectual women,and are the marginal people of Chinese and western culture in early China.At the same time,these new female painter is in western painting was introduced into China in the new period,China’s oil painting is a kind of new things,so,from a view of women,how the western painting form and traditional Chinese painting to make combination and transformation,how to use new way of painting to express the female self is also our subject worth studying.This paper hopes to find the answers to the above questions from the information conveyed by these new female painters in their self-portraits and get inspiration on how to continue female painting in the new era.
