Legal Interpretation plays an important role in judicial activities, and a trial usually depends on how to interpret and understand the law.It is very necessary for legal scholars to study legal interpretation. Therefore, the source text of this translation practice is selected from the book "The Nature of Legal Interpretation: How Linguistics and Philosophy in Legal Interpretation Enlighten Jurists",aiming at providing legal scholars with a deeper understanding of legal interpretation. This book is a collection of essays, which represents the thoughts about legal interpretation in Anglo-American jurisprudence in recent years.Chapter 8 of this essay collection is entitled Legal Speech and Elements of Adjudication. This chapter mainly explores two views on legal speech, and one expounds on how to treat legal speech to achieve fruitful research, another one tells how to better understand legal speech.Meanwhile, the translator encountered some difficulties during translation process. For example, the source text includes many terms, which are professional at the lexical level, the nominalization and the complex sentence structure. The translation of terms must be accurate,so a lot of materials and parallel texts are consulted in translation; The translation of nominalization must conform to the expression habits of the target language; The translation of complex sentences should be fluent while accurately expressing the original meaning. The translator follows the lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence in functional equivalence theory and finds a solution to the difficulties during translation process.
