| ince 2006,35 shadow puppet projects from 16 provinces including Hebei,Liaoning and Shaanxi have been selected for the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.Shadow Play Project National Representative Inheritors up to 50 people.Shadow puppet has a long history.According to historical records,shadow puppet originated in the Warring States period,flourished in the Han and Song dynasties.During the Yuan dynasty,shadow play spread to western Asia and Europe.The exquisite art of carving and painting endows shadow puppet with unique aesthetic value.In the functional evolution from "entertaining people" to "entertaining gods" to "pleasing gods together",shadow puppet has realized the leap from audio-visual mimicry to ritual symbol.Shadow puppet has been a symbol of Chinese culture with both denotation and connotation.Many local operas are derived from the shadow play system.However,in the context of contemporary digital media,the revival of shadow play encounters challenges from consumer culture and digital technology on the one hand,on the other hand,there are a lot of problems such as the old artisan’s declining,the adulteration of the old craft’s losing,the loss of the traditional mode of oral transmission,and so on.In order to explore the living inheritance path of shadow play,on the one hand,we should return to the village context to explain the cultural value and historical value of shadow play,focusing on how to embed shadow play symbols in the daily life of the village;On the other hand,in the context of digital media,it explores the innovative interpretation of the shadow play symbol system by digital images,especially through the recording of shadow play images to open and present the dialogue and interaction between the Shadow Play’s inheritors and the general public,together,the two constitute a major issue in the field of shadow play protection and inheritance.In order to clarify the cultural and historical values of shadow puppet in the context of daily life in the countryside,local studies were carried out by means of field research,this paper makes a systematic analysis of the symbolic activities of shadow puppet from three levels of modeling: perception,language and symbolic symbols.American semiotician Sebeok’s semiotic modeling theory effectively unifies numerous semiotic concepts which have been in a chaotic and discrete state for a long time,and establishes an interdisciplinary semiotic system.The phenomenological-hermeneutic method is used to analyze the relationship between the primary model,language modeling,symbolic modeling and the holistic phenomenon world in the modeling system,which guides the establishment of the shadow puppet semiotic interpretation system.Then through the analysis of the documentary image semiotic system,the feasibility of the symbolic representation of shadow puppet by the image media is verified.finally,the paper explores the construction and sharing of the image meaning in the dynamic process of symbol production,symbol circulation and symbol acceptance,in order to provide theoretical and practical experience for the creation of intangible cultural heritage such as shadow play in the context of media culture,and promote the recording of video as a carrier of living cultural heritage.Finally,the paper explores the construction of image meaning in the dynamic process of sign production,sign circulation and sign acceptance.In order to provide theoretical and practical experience for the creation of intangible cultural heritage such as shadow puppet in the context of digital media,and demonstrates the possibility and feasibility of recording video as a living way of cultural transmission. |
