Taishan Shadow Shadow Visual Modeling Language Research

Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry is a folk art rooted in the area surrounding Mount Tai.It was given the first Cultural Heritage Day Award by the Ministry of Culture in 2007,and rated as a national intangible cultural heritage conservation project in 2008.Fan Zheng'an,the 6th generation of inheritors of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry,was entitled “Top 10 Folk Art Inheritors” of Shandong province in 2010.Under the influence of folk customs,history and legends,Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry has evolved into a kind of shadow puppetry with traditional plays and performance forms full of local flavor,which makes it show detailed features different from the shadow puppetry of other regions in terms of the modeling process and form unique techniques of expression and visual modeling language.To reveal the implication of the modeling art of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry,this paper studies the visual modeling language of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry,which is composed of four parts.In Chapter 1,an introduction is provided to briefly describe the research background,current research status and existing problems,and to point out the research purpose,significance and methodology of this paper.In combination with specific historical and local cultural contexts,Chapter 2 explores and introduces the historical origin,traditional plays and the way of performance named “Shi Bu Xian(the use of five sense organs,four limbs and the head at the same time)” of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry.Chapter 3 is an analysis and interpretation of the modeling process of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry,giving a detailed description of the heads and bodies of puppets and props used in Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry.Moreover,the craftsmanship,shaping and color design of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry are discussed and summarized based on text and pictures,so as to more intuitively expound the modeling process of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry.Chapter 4 is an exploratory study of the visual modeling language of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry.The feature of “looking like paintings in a static state,and becoming plays in a dynamic state” creates the dual sense of beauty of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry in the expression of visual language.The author carries out the study by focusing on the two aspects,discussing the two-dimensional language and dynamic performance respectively,so as to show the laws and forms of the visual modeling language of Mount Tai Shadow Puppetry.
