A Practice Report On The E-c Translation Of Grace Kelly-The Secret Lives Of A Princess

This project report is based on the translation practice of the first three chapters of Grace Kelly---The Secret Lives of a Princess,and the excerpt mainly introduces Princess Grace’s family background,growth environment and life experience before she entered Hollywood.The source text is of the biography type,which is a literary genre on the basis of real history and created with vivid language and full-bodied characters to provide readers with a pleasant reading experience.In dealing with such a genre,not only should the text information be conveyed accurately,but also the differences between Chinese and English language characteristics,way of thinking and cultures ought to be taken into consideration.The translation is supposed to be flexible and vivid instead of being awkward and rigid.Qian Zhongshu put forward that the highest standard of literary translation(later he changed it to the highest ideal)is Sublimation.Under the guidance of it,the thesis first introduces the translation task,and then describes the process of translation from three stages: pre-translation,translation and post-translation.Finally,from the three aspects of offering “ enticement ”,avoiding “ misinformation ” and realizing“sublimation”,this thesis analyzes the typical words,sentences and paragraphs in the process of translation.In practice,the translator realizes that the practitioner ’ s profound literary and aesthetic quality as well as rich knowledge reserve are the key to offering“enticement”and avoiding “misinformation.” The skillful application of a variety of translation techniques is the only way to remove the linguistic and cultural barriers between the target text and the source text to realize sublimation.At the same time,“misinformation” is impossible to avoid completely,so “sublimation” cannot always be obtained,and translation is an art of regret.
