| This original text is selected from The Woman with the Blue Star,a novel written by the American best-selling author Pam Jenoff,published in 2021.With World War II as the background,it depicts the story of two girls from Polish and Jewish nationalities escaping the war,and artistically reveals the massacre atrocities of Nazi Germans for the Jewish and Polish.The novel is full of psychological descriptions and dialogue descriptions.From the perspective of the text function,it mainly has the vocative function.In terms of theoretical methods,communicative translation theory is employed to realize the text function in the author’s translation process.The translator mainly analyzes the difficulties encountered and the translation methods adopted from the lexical,the syntactic and the discourse levels.At the lexical level,the translator mainly adopts the methods of conversion,free translation,zero translation and non-translation,and four-character idioms are used to enhance the literariness.At the syntactic level,the methods of addition,division,restructuring,negation and adaptation are selected to make the translation easier to understand.At the discourse level,the lexical and grammatical cohesion are employed to achieve cohesion and coherence of the text.The translator intends to arouse readers’ interest in the novel and restore the Holocaust in Poland during World War II for domestic readers,and to summarize the shortcomings and limitations of the translation practice in order to provide reference for relevant translation studies and translation learners. |
