The biography Crave the Rose: Anne Bront(?) at 200 was first published in 2020 to mark the bicentenary of Anne Bront(?)’s birth.This biography relates the life story of Anne Bront(?) and the living conditions of the Bront(?) household,paying close attention to her personal beliefs.By this means it provides readers with a unique perspective by which to understand Anne.Since she remains something of an understudied and underappreciated figure,the author selected this biography as material for English-Chinese translation material.The thesis draws upon Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory and the language of biographical texts to discuss how communicative translation can function effectively in practice and hope to put forward translation strategies and methods of biographical texts by analyzing many examples in this paper.Firstly,this report outlines the business of translating the book and the entire translation process.Secondly,the report introduces Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the guiding theory of the translation practice and its application to this translation practice.The report analyzes examples on a lexical,syntactical and discourse-base level,and suggests specific translation skills and their effects for issues such as the choice of meaning,word formation,the addition and subtraction of words,the attributive clause,passive sentences,noun clauses,and the cohesion and coherence of discourse.The final part forms the conclusion and reflections of the translation report.
