| Many scholars carry out the ecological discourse analysis or the ecological analysis of any discourses in any field in order to reveal the ecological meaning of the discourse under the guidance of appraisal theory. However, the studies of ecological analysis of economic discourses are insufficient. Therefore, based on appraisal theory, the thesis aims to reveal ecological properties of economic news reports from the ecolinguistic perspective. The thesis mainly collected 26 economic news reports of Evergrande in The New York Times as an corpus to find out the ecological properties of attitude resources, engagement resources and graduation resources. The results show that in these economic news reports, the appraisal resources show all the three kinds of ecological properties,i.e.the ecological beneficial property, the ecological ambivalent property and the ecological destructive property. Most of them are ecological destructive appraisal resources, including ecological destructive attitude, ecological destructive engagement and ecological destructive graduation, followed by ecological ambivalent appraisal resources and ecological beneficial appraisal resources.Specifically, news reporters employ most of the ecological destructive appraisal resources to assess the effects of Evergrande’s problems, which may make people have a bad understanding of Evergrande’s problems and of Chinese government.Besides, most of such employment ecological destructive appraisal resources may cause panic and have bad impacts on development of China’s economy. This research hopes to broaden the research field of ecological discourse analysis and to help Chinese readers, investors, home buyers and Chinese enterprises should take an objective attitude towards the news by the media abroad. |
