Study On Fan Zhongyan’s Yi-ology

The Qingli period is a key stage in the history of Confucian classics.Fan Zhongyan’s Yiology and his thoughts are one of the important components and a typical representative of Confucian classics in this period.Fan Zhongyan’s interpretation of I Ching mainly includes Annotation of Book of I Ching,an analysis of the meaning of the twenty-seven hexagrams in I Ching,and other articles such as The Four Virtues and The I Ching consists of three things.Fan Zhongyan did not have a systematic interpretation of I Ching,his thoughts of Confucian classics has been ignored for a long time in history.With the meticulous and in-depth research perspectives in recent years,the emergence of Fan Zhongyan and Confucian classics of the Song Dynasty has attracted more and more attention from the academic circles.However,the current research tends to start from Fan Zhongyan’s social practice and political status for academic analysis,and pay less attention to the characteristics and significance of Fan Zhongyan’s classic interpretation,especially his interpretation of I Ching.Starting from the current academic research results on Fan Zhongyan and the rise of Confucian classics of Song Dynasty,the article further analyzes the background,ideological content and interpretation characteristics of Fan Zhongyan’s I Ching study from the micro perspective of classic interpretation,and then discusses the era significance and academic influence of Fan Zhongyan’s Yi-ology.Through his interpretation of the cosmology of the I Ching,Fan Zhongyan pointed out the leading role of gas of Qianyang in the process of the production and evolution of everything in the universeand,and believed that the change and development of the universe depended on the role of "shen" and "hua".Based on this view,Fan Zhongyan put forward the philosophical idea of communicating mind nature problems with "Qiandao" as the ontology through the mutual invention of I Ching and The Doctrine of the Mean.Establish a philosophical system that integrates cosmology,ontology,and mind nature theory.The characteristic of Fan Zhongyan’s study of I Ching is that based on the needs of the era of the reform of Confucian classics studies,through reflection on the study of annotations,it is proposed that the study of I Ching should "Follow the original meaning",expound the meaning of I Ching,and then grasp the problems of the times reflected in Yi-ology.Based on this understanding,Fan Zhongyan’s interpretation of I Ching is aimed at attributing to personnel affairs,focusing on exploring the practical value of I Ching theory,and in order to more comprehensively and directly expound the I Ching principle,Fan Zhongyan widely adopted a comparative method in the process of elucidating I Ching.In general,Fan Zhongyan’s I Ching study is a response to social problems.The value of his I Ching study of the times lies in leading the wind of change in the society of the Northern Song Dynasty and awakening the sense of distress in society.Its academic value is that it promoted the rise of Confucian classics of the Song Dynasty,created a precedent for explaining I Ching in Confucian terms,and became a prelude to the emergence of NeoConfucianism.
