| Since the professional degrees of MTI were authorized by the Ministry of Education in 2007,a large number of high-level,application-oriented senior translation professionals have been trained in colleges, which has played a great role in promoting cultural exchanges and economic and social development, thus accelerating socialist modernization. The evaluation of MTI students’ translation competence has become a topic discussed in academic circles.Actually,it is an effective way for MTI students to compare their past and current translations of the same source text.In particular,it is of great significance for the translator to analyze and summarize the translation methods and techniques used in the re-translation process under the guidance of translation theory. The source text is an excerpt from an academic article Higher Education and Employment, which introduces and analyzes the correlation between higher education and employment. The translator has translated the source text when studying in college, but without systematic study of any translation theory.Later, when studying for a master’s degree in translation, guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the translator re-translated the source text and had a clear contrast between two Chinese versions. The translator adopted appropriate translation ideas and techniques, found and corrected the translation errors existing in the past translated text, and solved problems in the re-translation process. The report consists of introduction, translation progress, theoretical foundation, case analysis and conclusion. The report analyzes and compares two Chinese versions of the source text from the perspective of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence, and summarizes several translation techniques and methods. In lexical equivalence, conversion, annotation and addition are used;in syntactic equivalence, linear translation, word order rearrangement and phrasing method are used so as to achieve equivalence;in textual equivalence, translation is carried out from two aspects: conforming to the context and keeping cohesion and coherence of the text;in stylistic equivalence, corresponding adjustments should be made in translation and different techniques are considered comprehensively so that stylistic equivalence can be achieved.By comparing translation of the same text during undergraduate and graduate studies, the importance of theoretical guidance in translation and problems existing in the process of translation learning can be seen clearly.Meanwhile, the report can give other MTI students or BTI students a useful reference and can help them better combine translation theories with translation practice. |
