A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Pacific Islands Academic Papers Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

As the Pacific regions have become the global focus,the relevant academic researches constantly develop in this region.The Pacific Islands have established their Pacific Research Centers.At the same time,China has attached great importance to the development and research of this region.To understand the development of Pacific regions and Pacific Islands,it is not enough to rely on the related documents.The papers published by those Pacific experts have also provided enormous supplement for the research in Pacific regions.Two academic articles on the Pacific Islands research are selected and translated.In this report,the functional equivalence theory put forward by Nida has been used to guide the translation of similar academic papers.Therefore,this report realizes the closer combination between theory and practice.The vocabularies and sentences of academic papers have been mainly analyzed in this report.First,the original text has been completely analyzed and understood in order to understand the background of the Pacific Islands research.Then,in accordance with the language characteristics of the original text,the language habits and the acceptance of the target readers,suitable translation methods have been adopted such as embedding,dividing,and restructuring.Through the translation practice,translation methods and strategies of academic texts will be introduced and it will provide some reference for the translation of related papers.In the process of translating this kind of texts,the problems have been concluded,and the solution to the problems has been explored to improve translator’s skills.
