| As a musical film, the Disney animated film’s lyrics are equivalent to the screenplay’s lines, which are seamlessly integrated with the audiovisual images. The Disney animated films’ lyrics contribute significantly to the film’s characterization, theme interpretation, and plot setting. Therefore, when dubbing Disney animated films, accurate translation of the song lyrics is critical for the audience to understand the entire plot.Based on the principles of synchronization in dubbing, this study adopts a descriptive research method to explore the translation of 22 songs in four dubbed Disney animated films. The author first counts the number of songs in the four films and classifies the target lyrics according to Chaume’s principles of synchronization in dubbing(isochrony, kinesic synchrony, lip synchrony). Then, based on the three principles of synchronization in dubbing, the study analyzes the song lyrics translation techniques used in four films, determines whether the translation accurately reproduces the meaning of the original lyrics, and explains why the lyrics do not accurately reproduce the meaning of the original lyrics in dubbing. The research conclusions of this study are as follows: 1.In the translation of dubbed song lyrics in Disney animated films, the translators mainly use eight translation techniques:natural translation, substitution, omission, reduction, addition, amplification, change of word order, and repetition.2.In the translation of dubbed song lyrics, the translation reproduces the meaning of the original lyrics to some degree. In the principle of isochrony,83% of the translations reproduce the meaning of the original lyrics in isochrony, including 84% in amplification and 82% in reduction. In the principle of kinesic synchrony,85% of the translated texts reproduce the meaning of the original song lyrics,in which the natural translation and repetition are 100%,and the substitution is 53%.In the principle of lip synchrony,79% of the translations reproduce the meaning of the original song lyrics, including 100% repetition,89% omission,88% change of word order,85% addition, and 62%substitution.3.In the translation of dubbed song lyrics, some lyrics deviate from the meaning of the source lyrics, owing primarily to the influence of the dubbing synchronization principles, such as replace the meaning of the original lyrics;add or omit words or expressions in the original language;choose phonemes with the same or similar pronunciation. To achieve synchronization, the aforementioned adjustments were made, causing some lyrics deviate from their original meaning. |
