The selected text of the translation practice report is the twelfth chapter“Caving”in the book Outdoor Recreation: Environmental Impacts and Management. This chapter discusses the impact on the environment, flora and fauna in caves through the outdoor activities of cavers, proposes agreement and strategies for managing caves as well as educates people on ways to protect caves. The translation practice report will address difficulties and problems from three perspectives, including vocabulary, sentence and discourse. In the process of translation, the translator uses professional dictionaries and parallel texts to know the background of the relevant field.Context analysis, part of speech conversion, and reduction translation, extension translation of compound words are adopted in lexical translation.Translation problems at the sentence level are solved from three aspects,namely,pre-translation method, the deconstruction method and the form translation method. At the level of discourse cohesion, two forms of reference and substitution are used to solve the problem of illogical failure. It is hoped that this translation practice report is expected to provide some references for Chinese environmental experts and outdoor cavers, and some lessons are provided for translators involved in environmental management. It also provides reference value for translators when translating such texts in the future.
