The liberation of labor is an important part of the theoretical system of Marxist historical materialism.Throughout his life,Marx attached great importance to the study of labor issues in contemporary society and the exposition and construction of the liberation of labor ideology. He found the key to understanding human history from the development of labor history.Marx aimed to achieve the full and free development of human beings through the liberation of labor, ultimately leading to human liberation. The pursuit of a better life in today’s era represents the essence and pursuit of Marx’s ideology of labor liberation, which is inherently connected to it.This paper explores the theoretical origins and development of Marx’s labor liberation ideology and clarifies its core content while analyzing its implications for understanding a better life.Through a review of Marx’s original works, related literature, and domestic and foreign literature, this paper argues that German classical philosophy provided the ideological basis for Marx’s labor materialist historical view, while British classical political economy provided the theoretical basis for his exploration of the practical conditions for labor liberation, and French utopian socialism provided the theoretical foundation for his conception of the path to labor liberation. In the context of the Industrial Revolution,Marx’s labor liberation ideology emerged and developed, ultimately achieving a transition from a humanistic perspective,a social-historical perspective,a systemic comprehensive critique,to a vision of future society in his works, such as the "Doctoral Dissertation" and the "Critique of the Gotha Programme." Marx’s labor liberation ideology has always been unified, and through analysis and integration of the text containing labor liberation ideology in Marx’s works, this paper explicates the basic connotations of labor liberation, summarizes the distinctive features of labor liberation from the perspectives of "historicity-class-consciousness," "practicality-development," and "critical-wholeness," analyzes the conditions for realizing labor liberation, including institutional guarantees, material foundations, changes in production relations, and the ideal state of society, and integrates the value and purpose of labor liberation from three levels: the establishment of the historical subject position of laborers, the unity of the "natural-social" dual relationship of labor, and the realization of the liberation of all humanity worldwide.A better life is an important part of the socialist practice with Chinese characteristics in the new era.Marx’s labor liberation ideology provides important inspiration for understanding a better life, specifically through three aspects: labor liberation and a better life have inner coherence;labor liberation is the driving force of the satisfaction of people’s needs for a better life;labor liberation is the value purport of people who yearn for living a better life with free and comprehensive development.
