Light and shadow,as an important form of expression, have revealed their unique artistic power in various types of painting art.Through the use of different forms of light and shadow, painters reproduce natural objects.Nowadays, light and shadow have become an independent element in contemporary painting art, becoming an expression of the painter’s emotion and an organic part of the aesthetics of the picture. The use of light and shadow presents more possibilities for artists in their painting creation. In the context of today’s art development,Chinese and Western painting concepts continue to merge, impacting the original visual art forms, and more and more Chinese painters begin to consciously combine Chinese and Western concepts to express the picture, and the presentation of light and shadow also tends to be diversified.Under this artistic trend, ceramic painting has changed from using Chinese painting techniques at the beginning to improving traditional ceramic painting by using the expression of light and shadow in Western painting. The application of light and shadow in the creation of ceramic painting has enriched the expression of contemporary ceramic painting and gradually created a new expression language of light and shadow. This paper focuses on the theoretical research and creative practice of light and shadow in contemporary ceramic painting.Firstly, the concept of contemporary ceramic painting is explained.Secondly,it discusses the specific application of light and shadow in ceramic painting by analyzing the expressions of light and shadow in Chinese and Western paintings, and recognizes its unique aesthetic value. Finally,by studying the relevant techniques in ceramic painting, the author uses the unique formal language of light and shadow to realize artistic expression.By applying the theory to his own creative practice,he explains his creative inspiration and personal reflections in the process of practice and tries to research his own painting language.
