A Study On The Growth Narrative In The Films Of Taiwan Director Edward Yang

As a famous director in Taiwan,Edward Yang’s influence also occupies an important position in the world film history.From the very beginning of his film creation,Edward Yang caused a great response in the film industry.He led the Taiwan new movie and bring new atmosphere to Taiwan film industry.Later,Edward Yang’s creation also has a strong personal style and profound creative thinking.From the first film that Edward Yang was worked on to his death in more than 20 years,he created a total of seven and a half films.Through the interpretation of director Edward Yang’s personal creation and experience as well as the seven and a half films,this paper will explore the film creation of director Edward Yang from the perspective of growth narrative.First of all,the thesis defines the growth narrative and points out the connection between growth narrative and Edward Yang’s films.Secondly,explore the narrative theme from the characterization of the growth narrative,then explore the growth mode of the protagonist from the growth outcome of the role and the relationship with the society,and then explore the strategy of growth narrative in Edward Yang’s films from the spatial metaphor of growth narrative and narrative structure of growth narrative.Finally,from the perspective of social issues,this paper discusses the narrative significance of growth narrative in Edward Yang’s films.Edward Yang often criticizes the world with a sharp perspective,but he also truly cares about each person as an individual.At present,there are many researches on Edward Yang in the academic circle,but few of these researches analyze his whole works from the perspective of growth narrative in Edward Yang’s films.The growth and changes of individuals and the psychological and life changes brought by these changes also inspire and touch everyone who watches the films of Edward Yang.The growth narrative in his films carries this meaning.
